Editing your HOSTS file to see the new server sooner
GB is on another server now. I've put in for the DNS information on Graphicbuds.com to be updated. The problem is, different ISPs (Internet Service Providers) update their DNS lists at different times. Some will have you on the new site within 24hrs, while others could take as long as Monday night. If you don't want ot wait on this, there is a way you can bypass it.
This is not to be used by people who are uncomfortable editing a system file, or who don't know much about text editing programs. If you are not comfortable doing this, DON'T.
The hosts file on your system stores DNS information locally. Anything here overrides the info given by your ISP. What you will be doing is telling your computer exactly where the new site for graphicbuds.com is, and telling it to use that address instead of the old one that your ISP may be sending out. Be very carefull when following these directions and read everything here.
Undo these changes at some point next week! If you are here because you didn't undo it after the last time, then just follow these directions to find the file and then remove all lines referencing GraphicBuds.
Right click
on my computer and select explore (or pull up an explorer NOT IE window
some other way)
- Click on the tools menu (9x: View)
- Click on folder options
<
- Click on the "View" tab
- Select "Show all files and folders"
- Uncheck "Hide extention for known file types"
(doesn't affect this, but do it anyway, helps avoid viri)
- uncheck "Hide proteced operating system files

- Browse to C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc (9x: c:\windows or c:\windows\system)
- double click on hosts(no extension or
anything, just "hosts") If you don't have a hosts file, click here
- Click Select Program from List

-
Add the two lines for GB to the bottom and
save it. (Your host file may not be empty if you've used certain
programs that alter the hosts file, just add them to the end in any
case.)

If you already have lines for GB, that means you never undid it fromt he last move. YOu can either change the ips to the new one, or remove the lines and see if your server has updated.
* You might
only have a hosts.sam (sample)
file. If this is the case, follow the directions above to add those two lines to the end of it
and
save it as "hosts" with the quotes as in the photo below

like this:
USE QUOTES OR IT WILL BE SAVED AS HOSTS.TXT!
